Our Brochure Story – by Mike & Rich Jr., the “Brochure Bro’s”!
How it Began
Forrest & Sons Brochure Distribution was started in the Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania by Janice & Richard Forrest, Sr. in 1977.
They moved to the Pocono Mountains, PA from Staten Island, New York in the early 1970’s. Richard Sr. was a Merchant Marine, and seafaring character since he was old enough to work. Janice was a nurse by profession, working at Doctors’ Hospital in Staten Island, NY and then Pocono Hospital in East Stroudsburg, PA. Having young children, Janice needed to start a side hustle to help support the family and to help raise the kids.
Then One Day…
Janice saw a “help wanted” ad in the local newspaper. A new business named Magic Valley in Bushkill, PA was hiring people to distribute their brochure to as many places that would accept them. This customer would end up being the first step to our long running business. Our mother and us would load up our station wagon with Magic Valley Brochures, small fold up brochure holders, and our little brothers. We would have a wonderful day together driving around and taking turns running into other businesses to ask if we could leave a single holder of Magic Valley brochures. We would even make a game of it to see who could get the most places to give us permission. That time spent with our mother seemed like work at the time, but it ended up being one of the most fun times we had in our life with her. We did very well, and our first customer was very happy with our service. We were also amazed at the way that some places really enjoyed receiving that kind of information for their guests. After some time, other companies in the area took notice of the job we were doing and asked if we could add one more brochure to the station wagon. So now we had two customers! From there more would ask us to distribute for them too. This gave our Mom the idea to ask our Dad if he could make small counter top displays that would hold 12 different brochures. That way we may someday have 12 customers. Well that did not take long at all, and we knew that we were on to something. From there the displays, and areas we covered grew.
Present Day
Forrest & Sons Brochure Distribution today will soon be in business for 50 years. The current owners are Michael Forrest & Richard Forrest, Jr. Together as second generation brochure distributors, we take just as much pride in our work as our parents. This business is very special to us and we try to improve our customer’s experience constantly.
We would like to thank all of our customers over the years. The connections that we have made with you throughout the years are priceless. Our mother Janice passed on June 6, 2023. Her heart and generosity will live in us, and our work forever. Going forward we consider this business an amazing gift and will promise to fulfill our work to new and existing customers.
